Friends’ presentation at the G20 Working Group on Energy Sustainability meeting

On Monday 8 July 2013, at the G20 Working Group on Energy and Sustainability meeting in St Petersburg, New Zealand on behalf of the Friends of Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform grouping (FFFSR) made a presentation on how the G20 might best structure its proposed voluntary peer reviews process for fossil fuel subsidy reform. Vangelis Vitalis (New Zealand Ambassador to the EU, NATO and Sweden) was the New Zealand representative who spoke on behalf of FFFSR. The presentation drew extensively on these talking points (PDF – 76KB).

The Friends group was formed in June 2010 to support G20 and APEC leaders’ commitments to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies. The Friends encourage the G20 and APEC to implement their initiative as soon as possible, with maximum ambition and transparency.
